I’ve read all of the inner / outer circle blogs about where to use Yammer and where to use Teams, but they pretty much do the same job. As Teams grows and becomes more mature as a product then it will be able to do everything Yammer can. You can now also have external guests join your Teams, Team.
So my question is … do you think Teams will eventually replace Yammer, if so why?
Are you an organization that’s successfully using both?
I feel that the two need to be one. With the ability to create Public teams, that anyone in the company can join, you get 90% of the functionality of Yammer. Microsoft just needs to resolve the size limits for a Team. Yammer is just a very light weight Team.
Maybe MS should consider the ability to create just that, a light weight Team without all the overhead of SharePoint. Given that chat is a feature of Exchange it would be nice to have the ability to choose what type of Team you want. For Yammer like Team you could just choose a chat based Team.
I don’t like the idea of having to have multiple clients now open. We know how heavy Teams is and to have to run a separate client for Yammer so that you can get notifications doesn’t make sense to me.
