Can anyone explain to me what are SharePoint-based Sites? Are these site different from websites? If yes, then “How”, if the answer is “No” then are SharePoint based sites similar to normal websites in terms of hosting and creation?

This means that using Webtrends (Analytics for Sharepoint) would only work on Sharepoint based websites. Not on an ordinary website..
Also, can you give me a sample website that is based on Sharepoint.

Seeing that it is product designed for SharePoint likely means that it does analytics specific to structure of SharePoint related sites. Webtrends would likely have a separate analytics software that would be for general purpose websites.
You can search online for samples of “top” public-facing SharePoint sites.
