Have a look here – https://technet.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/cc262483(v=office.16).aspx
“SharePoint Server 2016 does not support SharePoint 2010 mode (that is, compatibility level 14) site collections. Any site collection that is in this mode will block the attachment of that content database to the SharePoint Server 2016 farm. You must upgrade all SharePoint 2010 mode sites to 2013 mode (that is, compatibility level 15) on the existing 2013 farm before you mount the database on the new SharePoint 2016 farm”
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. So lets say, we have double hopped and now the SharePoint 2010 is successfully upgraded to SP2016. The question here is ,can you run sites of SharePoint 2016 in  SharePoint 2010 mode?
For example: In SharePoint 2013, there is a option while creating a new site collection, which says if you want to run your site in SharePoint 2010 mode (By 2010 mode, I mean, the look and feel of SharePoint 2010 even if SharePoint 2013 is deployed) , while creating a site collection you can choose the mode. So, it is observerved, that for this to work, in SharePoint 2013 , there are two hive folders Hive-14 andd Hive-15 , which contains features, images etc for each version. Please refer:Â https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/sharepointdevelopersupport/2013…
So wanted to know if such a option is present in SharePoint 2016 also or not? If yes, How to achieve it?
Thanks
Alka
Hi,
Based upon your description, its not possible to upgrade directly from SP2010 to SP2016. You need to be double hop. That being said, you need to firstly upgrade your SP2010 towards 2013. Thereafter you can upgrade to SP2016 .
Further, I will suggest you to follow DB attached upgrade process.
In case you wish to proceed for direct migration without having double hop, you can take help using Lepide SharePoint migration tool which should be an ideal solution to work around your situation.
