Hello SharePoint Community,

Wanted to inquire and see which technique/process you follow when you create site templates in SharePoint. The basic way to create a template is to use “Save Site as a template” feature in Site Settings. HOWEVER, when publishing features are enabled on the site collection and the site, this option IS NOT available. There are 2 techniques to get around that:

1. Do a workaround using SharePoint Designer to enable “Save Site as a Template” setting – but according to various blog posts – this workaround is not supported by Microsoft and might cause issues long-term

2. Use “Site Content and Structure” feature in Site Settings and replicate an existing site using copy command. Does the job but involves too many manual steps.

Anyone aware/can recommend other techniques? Template Site Creation is an often required requirement when need to replicate project or team sites on set site look and feel.

Thanks in advance,
Greg
