We are trying to re-index ONE content source and found articles to do that. Most say to remove the starting address in the details of that content source….problem is, you MUST have something in the starting address or it will not save. Hence the index for the site does not get removed Other articles state you can delete the content source. Both ways say that when you remove the starting address or the content source itself, that it triggers a mechanism to remove only the indexes of that content source, which keeps you from having to re-index ALL your content sources. Brings up these questions…
1) How do you just remove the starting address and save the content source without an address so that it may trigger the removal of those indexes only? Mine required something to be in that field….
2) When I DELETED the content source I would expect my index folder to get smaller…..at least eventually. Well after 2 hours my indexes have actually grown. No bueno. Is there a timer job specifically for the cleanup of a removed data source? Or just what job, etc….should remove this index from the other content source indexes that I did not remove?
Let me know if there is a better forum to address this question….I’m very new at SharePoint and to this site. Thanks!
