Currently using Sharepoint Server 2010
Trying to create an IT Support Desk knowledge base – using 2 separate document libraries, in an IS Documentation site.
- Support Documents
- Engineer Documents
The two libraries are for two different groups, all IT can view the Support Documents but ONLY Engineer/Architects can view the Engineer Documents library. I’m using metadata for each document library that gives information on the application name and a few other fields.Â
My plan is to create a web page for each application with high level details on the application – and have a content query web part that would be used to filter only the specific documents based on the Application metadata. Â All of this seems to work fine with one exception that is killing me.
CQWP will not open the word documents in the web browser, always opens up in Word. It will open Excel documents in IE fine, just not Word.Â
Has anyone else seen this or does anyone know of a fix?
Thanks in advance
Have you tried this. You will need to use SPDesigner..

This is the behavior I experienced when using SP2010 as well – Excel opens in IE, Word does not. I am not sure if SP2013 fixed this issue, or if the version of Word is a factor, as I jumped from SP2010 to SPOnline. Maybe someone else can educate on that. But, it’s not just you!Â
