If I configure a document library to allow ONLY major versions to be saved down while I already have draft documents available in the library will that affect anything? Will the draft versions be automatically promoted to major versions or will they stay as is? Is there anything else I need to be aware of before I change this setting?
I hope this makes sense and I am happy to clarify.
Update:
As a precaution I decided to create a view to show all items that were checked out at the time and then checked them in prior to making the version setting change from Minor/Major to Major Only. After that, I checked out a test document, changed the version setting, checked the document back in and there were no issues.
Therefore, I answered my own question and can say changing the versioning settings in SharePoint 2013 On Premise doesn’t negatively affect documents currently checked out.
