Maybe I’m missing something … on my SharePoint 2010 farm, I have a “Directory” Site collection that has a list of the other site collections with descriptions and links, which I made a portal site for the other site collections. In 2010, this put “Directory” at the top of the navigation bread crumb trail under the Navigate Up widget.
In 2013, this appears to do nothing. I can set a site collection as a portal site, but as far as I can tell, it’s not accessible anywhere when setting up navigation. Anyone else figure out how to use this thing in 2013 … or is it a feature that’s going to be going away in the future so they no longer support it?
No, haven’t found anything and as you can tell the only thing I’m hearing here is the sound of virtual crickets. SharePoint is like a mosaic of great ideas, but some of the tiles are the wrong color, some are half-baked, others are broken or are loose and fall out when someone walks over them.Â
I’m rather surprised at the lack of responses to questions on this forum … I’m about to give up on it. It’s not much of a “SharePoint Community” as far as I can see. What I’ve done is purchase Archetonomy’s Mega Menu plugin and am working on learning it. That will provide me with the navigation flexibility I need. For now, I’m providing a link to a directory site collection I’ve created at the top of site Quick Launch areas.
My suspicion: Microsoft wanted to remove the portal for some reason, and instead they left it in there but broke the functionality so it was useless.Â
I’m seeing exactly the same thing. Did you get to the bottom of it?
