Taking advantage of the free month trial someone suggested that a good way to get a real Sharepoint 2013 environment up & running for the purposed of learning in depth would be MICROSOFT AZURE
So I’m following these very long instructions :

However it really does seem VERY longwinded – wondered if anyone knows any shortcuts ?!
Any advice gratefully received. All the work I’m setting up is NOT going to be used by a company, it is just for my own learning..

You have to watch Ken’s SP24 session : ‘AZURE IAAS – EASY MODE SHAREPOINT 2013 DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT‘. It’s awesome and will take you through every step!
thanks Nico. but i don’t know how to get Active D installed as am only a beginner..in the meantime MICROSOFT got all jittery and have suspended my free account as they thought it may incur charges !! was having too much fun ..

Do you have any experience on SharePoint 2013 (on-premises)
If you do, just select the SharePoint 2013 trial from the template gallery, install Active Directory and run the products configuration wizard and your all set.
