In our SharePoint 2013 site, we have custom SharePoint Designer workflows running. We have an issue where in the auto-generated workflow tasks aren’t opening in Outlook 2013, but will open in Outlook 2010.
In Outlook 2013, when the user clicks the Open this task link at the top of the email, a window pops up (too quickly for anyone to read what it says) and then nothing else happens.
In Outlook 2010 and OWA, the Open this task link works fine. The default browser opens the task without a problem.
Not sure where to look for issues with this, we are running Exchange Server 2010. All users access SharePoint from their domain accounts (same login as email).

Yeah robin
this is the link
In the GPO editor, navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Microsoft Outlook 2010 -> Miscellaneous. Enable the “Do not display “Open this task” button for workflow task” You will have to refresh the policy on the workstation for this to take effect (gpupdate /force) or simply log off and back on.
That’s what we ended up doing was adding a link to the task in the email. I need to look at disabling the functionality in Outlook so that it won’t confuse users. Do you remember, Reshma, where you found that link?
Yah , I have tried all possible solutions , adding the site to trusted zone , making security level as default , accessing the outlook and sharepoint from same domain , but the issue still persists.
I have raised the issue with Microsoft Team , they haven’t come back with any resolution .
in one of the blog , i have read of disabling the “Open this task” functionality from outlook and adding it in the email body as a link , as suggested by you.
About a year ago I experienced the same issue and gave up trying to fix that. As it was applicable in my case, I just added a hyperlink for opening task in the email body.
Even i am facing the same issue
On Click of Open the Task button in outlook , the form doesnt open
I got this solution article but still the issue persists
