I got the following message when I tried to use SharePoint designer 2010: “Microsoft SharePoint designer cannot be used to edit web sites on servers different from SharePoint Server 2010…”
We have not received any message that we have been migrated. So as far as I am concerned we are still on 2010. If you click on the url in the message you are advised to download and use SPD 2013.
Is that a wise decision to follow up?
Are we now on 2013? Microsoft didn’t inform us. How can we know? Front end still is 2010.
Any ideas / suggestions are more than welcome!
Hi
“Under the covers” most of SharePoint online has been upgraded to SharePoint 2013. What has not happened with everyone is that the UI has not been upgraded to SharePoint 2013. This will happen over the next year. For obvious reasons if Microsoft turned on everybody’s UI onto SP2013 at once their helpdesk would get swamped, so they doing the upgrade gradually. You will get a series of emails from Microsoft when you are due to be upgraded and when the upgrade actually happens. You then have a certain amount of time to switch on the SharePoint 2013 UI (Site Collection Upgrade) before it is forced onto you.

This is a different issue, you haven’t been migrated. Only the server your tennant is part of has been updated to SharePoint 2013! That’s the reason you cannot use SharePoint Designer 2010 anymore.
Please read my resources article about the update:
http://www.jasperoosterveld.com/2013/03/office-365-wave-15-update-sharepoint_15.html
It contains a link to the notification e-mails you are going to receive. Microsoft is never going to update your tennant without any notification.
So the conclusion is: You have been migrated to SharePoint 2013 server.
- Close browsers
- Uninstall SPD 2010
- Download SPD 2013 32 bits (if yr office version is 32 bit)
- Install SPD 2013
- Reboot
SPD 2013Â should work now from site actions and library /list icons from the ribbon
Be aware that functionality has changed and not everything is working.
Still curious to know how many of you have been migrated…..
That sucks that you didn’t get notified. We did a couple of weeks back. Although why I can’t now perform the upgrade is another question…
