Hi,
How can I create a replica of a SharePoint online production site? We want to use this replica site for development purposes. Creating a site template is not an option as it is a publishing site and the option is missing.
Is there any other way to achieve this other than using 3rd party tools like Sharegate, Metalogix, etc? Also will I able to create a replica of the Sharepoint Online Publishing site using the trial version of these tools?
Please advice..
Hi Shai,
You can use PnP provisioning to get a template of the existing site and restore it any no of times you need. Check out https://github.com/SharePoint/PnP-Provisioning-Schema
1) open your site in sharepoint designer 2013.
2) click site options in the top ribbon>find the savesiteastemplateenabled parameter>change the value from false to true>ok>ok
3) go to your site via browser>site settings>site actions, and see whether the save site as template option has been back or not. if yes, please check if it works fine.

Hi Blair,
you can take a copy via Save site as template feature, which is present under Settings Menu (gear icon) -> Site Settings -> Site Actions ->Save Site As Template
please check this option , hope it works 🙂

Sure !
Hi Fred,
Yes it picks up the workflows too. I don’t see external content types coming up as they don’t come within the context of the site rather central administration.
Hi, Chanakaya.
Does it also include Workflows similar to backup & restore for on-prem? Also, curious whether it carries over External Content Types into the cloned site.
Fred
