In the not too distant past (2-3 months ago) you could create a grouped by view in a document library and then assign/reassign metadata by dragging documents to a different group. However, this function seems to have disappeared and I can’t find any mention of it on the usual SharePoint support sites (technet, uservoice). I know others have noticed it due to responses to a blog comment I made yesterday. Has anyone else noticed this or have any more information on whether it is gone for good? Thanks.

It works in my production tenant. I am in a targeted release mode.
Only thing you need to note is that the group should be expanded before you drag & drop.
