Made a web part where users can choose from a variety of courses held on specified places, at specified times, even number of seats is specified so when all seats are taken, booking is not possible anymore.
We use a COTS installation of SP 2010 and my challenge is:
Choosing an event should automatically generate appointment in users Outlook calendar.
So far, users have had to put the booked event in Outlook manually. Our surveys shows that this “extra work” is very irritating, they can´t understand why we could not get it automatically.
Once I made ics files and linked them to the list pf events. I named the link “Add To Outlook”
Easier to make the booking, but still no automation…
Can I make this automation using SP “as is” or do I need 3rd party extensions?
Here is a start for you. I used this a long time ago but it may get you going in the right direction. If you are using a centralized calendar its easier without doing a 3rd party tool.
