Avoiding overwrite of files with same file name into large multi user image library sharepoint 365

Hi Guys,

I am using sharepoint 365 as a DAM system for a departments large image database 2000 images. The images filenames are mostly the cameras auto naming (IMG_23204). My issue with sharepoint is that it automatically overwrites an image if it has a duplicate filename (essentially merging the two files but overwriting the original image), and gives no warning that this action is occuring.

I use a drag and drop system to upload multiple images at once, and this method doesn’t give an overwrite warning prompt.

I don’t know anything about coding so I am wondering if there is a way around this issue as it is frustrating and can cause major issues with losing previous work.
