I may very soon be tasked with assisting one of our clients in migrating their on-prem SharePoint to the cloud (most likely O365). At the moment, I don’t have more details than that.
What general advice can you give (besides “good luck” *points finger at trevor)? What questions need to be answered before this begins? What tools have you used and recommend?Â
I am hoping to get a good checklist so I know what I am getting into. Thanks in advance!
Update:Â Their content database is only 3.9GB and they have a bunch of nested team sites with most of them being empty. It’s SP 2010 Foundation, as well. I don’t see this being a very big challenge at this point, but I still would love feedback in the event something more major does come about in the future.
Make sure they got no farm solutions.. they won’t work in o365.
From what I heard.. Sharegate Rocks. Send a tweet to @bniaulin , he’s a migration pro!
I’ll start off with a few simple things I can think of:
How much data?
How many users?
What version of on-prem?
Custom solutions currently in use that need to be retained?
