Hi all, over the coming weeks we are going to be posting a series of interview style blog posts all about you!
They are going to be posted and promoted on SharePoint-community.net plus Collab365 Global ConferenceĀ in a “meet the community” series.
The goal is to find out about the wonderful community, plus help educate others by sharing experiences.
*** answer these 3 questions in the comments ***
Question 1 : What does a typical day working with SharePoint look like?
(I.e. Do you develop, administer, sell it, write about it, demo it? Let’s us know which version) … Try to share at least a couple of sentences š
Question 2 : How do you keep your skills up to date?
(I.e. Where do/did you get the knowledge and skills needed to do your job? Is it courses, conferences, books, videos, peers, “influencers”? Give examples).
Question 3 : What is the one (non Microsoft) App / tool / script you couldn’t do without when working with SharePoint (or Office365)?
(E.g. In my developer days I would say things like .net reflector, SPServices, Resharper, Balsamiq mockups, CKS Dev). (If you can’t think of one let us know your favourite SharePoint feature).
Optional Question : How do you get involved in the SharePoint community?
(I.e. Do you attend user groups, blog, speak, write, SPS, conferences?)
****
That’s it. If you can post the answers in the comments we will get them copied over and published. Can you also let us know of a good profile photo to use? We can take it from your FB profile if you give us permission..
Who’s the bravest one to go first?
Btw – You can also do it in video format if you like. I am sure Jeff ShueyĀ will give it a go from his paddle board! Doesn’t need to be polished just turn your phone camera on and start talking.
#1: developing OOTB solutions for day2day work problems
#2: I’m an autodidact so I mostly use my common senses or elseĀ google, platforms and communities
#3: I’m really into SP, so I would have to say SP Designer
Question 1 : What does a typical day working with SharePoint look like?
I worked for almost two years as a Head of Microsoft Department for Swiss company on branch in Czech Republic. I prepare solutions for customers from architecture / consultant point of view, provide presale sessions and trainings. I am a big fan of Office 365, so now I am moving in this area primary, but on-premise is also still quite common on customer side. Main versions for solutions are 2010/2013. I am also Microsoft MVP for Microsoft Azure Area, so I am trying to provide as most combined solutions as possible (Machine Learning, PowerBI, hybrid scenarios etc.).
Question 2 : How do you keep your skills up to date?
Wherever its possible, looking on many blogs, read feedly every day, talking with rest of the community, attending meetings, getting feedback about different solutions and problems in customersā side during sessions etc.
Question 3 : What is the one (non Microsoft) App / tool / script you couldn’t do without when working with SharePoint (or Office365)?
Definitely Sharegate! Love that tool. Many use cases like migrating from file drive/share to OneDrive for Business Profiles, SharePoint Site Collections between tenants etc. Also SPAutoInstall is great ā script from codeplex ā really helpful tool.
Question 1 : What does a typical day working with SharePoint look like?Ā I work in the public sector as a SharePoint Solution Lead within a line of business for the largest county in the state of MN. My day-to-day role consists of consulting with departments on how SharePoint can replace current manual tasks or provide process improvement.
Question 2 : How do you keep your skills up to date?Ā I’m actively involved in the Twin Cities SharePoint Community through various groups; SharePoint Saturday Twin Cities (spstc.com), MN SPUG and MN WiSP. Attending meetings through these various avenues allows me to stay on top of what’s new and how other organizations are using SharePoint.
Question 3 : What is the one (non Microsoft) App / tool / script you couldn’t do without when working with SharePoint (or Office365)?Ā I’d have to say this would be Sharegate. It’s allowed me to be able to move large quantities of content in a painless fashion! Additionally, the reporting capabilities that it offers are extremely helpful specifically when it comes to tracking permissions (oh SO many permissions!).
