Can anyone explain to me what are SharePoint-based Sites? Are these site different from websites? If yes, then “How”, if the answer is “No” then are SharePoint based sites similar to normal websites in terms of hosting and creation?

SharePoint sites are different from a typical or what you may consider normal website using another technology.
It is different since Microsoft and 3rd parties have developed templates that makes it quicker to create/deploy sites rather building something from scratch. This can be a downside in certain situations since you will need to know the ins/outs of the platform if you would like to customize it for your needs compared to building your own framework.
