Have strange problem with SP2013 and Excel 2013 files. From site using browser I can’t open files in client when just click on file. Working if I open site in explorer view or if I copy direct link to file and open in browser.
- file located in Shared Documents/folder name/
- no any invalid characters
- browser – yes, my IE 10 is x64, but the same problem with Mozilla Firefox (x86)
- SharePoint Open Documents Class is loaded in IE
I think problem with path length restriction because I can open another file in the same folder, but with shortest file name:
- 1 file – full path (http://server/site/library/folder/filename.xlsx) is 104 symbols – no problems with open
- 2 file- full path is 136 symbols – error when open file with Excel
Check the following:
- The file is not located in a deeply nested folder structure which leads to a long url. (longer than what a  browser can handle. ) for example: http://domainName/library/folder1/subfolder1/subfolder2/dubfloder/……/fileName
- The file name of any folder’s name does not have invalid characters like (* , ; < etc..)
- The browser is not a 64 bit version
- In the browser manage add-ons verify that SharePoint Open Documents Class is loaded and Enabled when you navigate to the library. (Tools–>Manage Add-Ons):
?width=721
IE 10, Mozilla Firefox 22
I see Excel error:
Cannot open file, please check:
the folder is exist
the folder which contain this file is not read-only
file name not include symbols like <>?[] : or *
path to file not exceed 218 symbols
Original error in russian:
What happens when you click on the link to the file? do you get an error? If so, please post the error. (include also browser version)
