Hi all, I’m having trouble saving a site as a template in SharePoint online.
I’ve created a blank team site and left all features alone – but “save site as template” is still missing from the site settings.
I’ve tried the trick of appending /_layouts/15/savetempl.aspx to the end of the URL. Weirdly enough, instead of telling me I can’t perform the action, it kicks me to the error screen “Sorry, you don’t have access to this page” – even though I am considered an owner with full control. Just for giggles, I requested access from this screen, and even got an email in my inbox – to approve myself (permission inception – we have to go deeper). Still no luck.
I’ve also tried to enable saving as a template in SharePoint designer – but the SaveSiteAsTemplateEnabled parameter isn’t even available. When I try to add it, it gives me a 403FORBIDDED error.
So what’s the deal? The only thing I haven’t checked yet is scripting capabilities, but I have no idea who the SharePoint administrator is at my org (500+ employees) so I’m not sure how I can check that.
Any help appreciated.
Are you trying to save a site collection as a template?
Also, were Community Sites Feature, SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure (Site Collection, not site) ever enabled?
In Central Admin, is scripting capabilities turned off?? I’ve seen sometimes, this will prevent you from creating a site template.
Unfortunately I don’t have Admin privileges at my company, so I can’t check this readily. Is there any way to figure whether the feature is on or off without having admin privileges? I haven’t been able to figure out who the Admin is at my company…
I’m not sure if there is a way to figure this out, without being an admin. You will not be able to enable or disable this without Admin privileges.
Hi, thanks for answering. No, Community Site Features and Server Publishing Infrastructure are not and were never enabled. I did realize that I was indeed trying to save the site collection as a template. I went ahead and created a subsite and hacked the URL there. I was given access to the “save site as template” page, but when I filled out the info and clicked OK, I was again kicked to the “you don’t have access” page. So close!!
