Is it possible to configure SQL server alias names on an existing SharePoint 2010 farm? A lot of info out there suggests that this is done during the installation of SP, but I am not see much info on performing this after the fact. The farm I currently manage was inherited; meaning the admin before me did not set this up during the initial install of the farm. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is no reason you wouldn’t be able to do it afterwards. However, it could be confusing namewise.
