Is it possible to created a link in SharePoint to access a document stored external to SharePoint (and to the internet, for that matter)? It’s possible we could provide a location on our intranet system if that would be required.
I have seen some things online about linking between libraries but that’s about it.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Hi Paul,
Is this information in a network store or something else? You can setup search to look at content outside of SharePoint and access documentation that way.
I was thinking you might be able to leverage BCS, but not sure if it would work for documents. It does work for data (list data), but I have never seen it done for documents. Search might be what you need.
I will do some more digging on my end and get back to you.
