There is still a lot of discussion about Bring-You-Own-Device (BYOD) to the workplace. I would love to know whether you allow staff to access SharePoint on a mobile device? .
If you do allow mobile access to SharePoint, then …
- Is the mobile device owned by the company?
- Do you allow access when they away from the office?
- Do you use a 3rd party tool to make the experience better?
- How do you manage the rendering of SharePoint pages? (i.e. use the mobile views or do you have a custom master page that’s based on responsive design).
The mobile device is not necessarily owned by the company. We do allow access away from the office. We use a 3rd party tool called MobileIron which is the same tool we use for access to email. The rendering works fine for tablets but the phones didn’t work so well in 2010 so we disabled the mobile view and we don’t use responsive design yet.
