It seems like almost all the discussions about InfoPath I see here and elsewhere involve some browser-oriented use case scenario. I see very little discussion of the InfoPath Filler client application. Do you use InfoPath Filler? If so, what do you use it for? If not, why not? If you were unaware it existed, that would also be interesting to know.
Thanks,

The only way you can have browser forms in 2010 is if you are on SharePoint Enterprise with Forms Services activated. If not, then InfoPath Filler forms are the only InfoPath option. There are lots and lots of organizations that are on Server Standard or Foundation, so Forms Services isn’t available to them. In addition, there is still functionality that is not available for browser forms. The gap has narrowed considerably since IP 2007, but there are still gaps.Â
I would think that the discussion being dominated by browser forms is an indication that IP doesn’t have a lot of penetration in the Standard and Foundation environments because of the cost of providing the client app to all the users. Many organizations would find it more cost-effective to move up to Enterprise than to buy IP for everyone.Â
