We have recently implemented the Site Mailbox feature in our DEV environment for our SharePoint 2013 on-premises farm. I must have had my expectations set too high, because I am not finding this feature very useful.

Does anyone recall the days of SharePoint when you could add a web part to a SP site to view all of your email messages? This was really useful, since your email became another list within your site.

However, the Site Mailbox app doesn’t keep the user inside of their SharePoint site. When you click on the site mailbox it takes you into Outlook Web Access to view the mailbox.

I get the whole concept of a shared mailbox, but it really doesn’t add much functionality to SharePoint. Does anyone know of something useful that this can do besides providing another email repository?
