Does JSON work with SharePont list views?

I have created a list in SharePoint O365.  I applied conditional formatting on a list column using JSON.  It works fine in the default view on the list page.  If I embed the list view into something like the home page, the formatting does not work. Is that by design or is there something I can do to change that behavior?
