I am wondering what is the best way to configure the search results so that it opens all files in the client application instead of the browser.
Currently all Excel files try to open in Excel Services but in the Document Library they open in the Client Application.
Note: I have activated the Open Documents in Client Applicatons by Default feature in Central Admin.
If anyone requires further information I am happy to provide it 🙂
I found my answer! Trevor informed me that there is a “Preferences” Button at the bottom of the search results page that gives you the option to “Open Documents in Client Application”.
The first question I have is do you want or need Excel Services turned on? I have seen this issue when people have turned on Excel Services, then decided they didn’t want to use it and turned it off, but the .xlsx files still try to open in Excel Services and you have to download them instead. Also, is this issue only for Excel files or for other types of files also?
I think the fix for Excel files was you had to turn off Excel Services, delete the search index and run a brand new full crawl but not sure. Please provide more info.
