Stories based user trainings are effective. SharePoint 2010 User Adoption training videos were good.
Video trainings are also effective. Including those with LMS is bonus plus. Some of the trainings format listed below were effective for my customers:
- Small 2-3 minutes structured personalized videos that you can host within SharePoint
- Creating separate site collection just for training where users can play around and practice
- Use step by step topic specific word / PDF guide that users can download, keep and print. Make training contents relevant to the training site collection
- Using WebEx to do live training and also to record and use their LMS to track who is registering
- Using LMS format
- Conducting pre-training and post-training surveys to measure the trainee’s skillset, performance and training effectiveness
