I have set up a SP 2013 demo environment with a number of users in AD. Â In SP I mapped the “Work Email” field to “mail” and ran a full user profile synchronization. Â Looking at the user profiles in SP shows shows their email addresses, however when I want to add alerts SP complains that some users don’t have email addresses defined. Â Any thoughts?

Hello Haniel,
Most probably, the site collection’s user information list hasn’t been updated from user profile store. There is a timer job called User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization which does this job every hour. Check the status of this timer job and try to run it manually.
