Thought it’d be great to start a discussion about the options, challenges and configuration required to integrate on-premise SharePoint with 365 (or even private clouds such as Fpweb.net).
What are the main areas to think about (e.g security, authentication, performance, latency …) ? If you can share your experiences, we’d love to hear about them!
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark,
In my experience, the biggest issue still is trust and the Patriot act. When I’m talking to customers (mostly Enterprise), they are all worried about their data and privacy. I would also like to note that for 90% of the customers, they shouldn´t worry about the patriot act, as their own security is VERY probably worse than O365. Think about what information the NSA/CIA could get if they wanted it.Â
The technical part is pretty easy to set up, and can achieve SSO by using ADFS. You can specify which devices can access the O365 services there and set up any restrictions you want.
Another issue I’m often facing is the latency in Office365 (Especially SP Online). In my experience, SharePoint Online is pretty slow when browsing regular sites. However, Microsoft is improving this, so I expect to see this in the near future.
