Need a better understanding of users opening the document library with “Open with explorer” function can anyone point me towards any documentation/articles?
Here is my concern.
Between IE Settings, Group Policies, correct Zones selected, authorization methods and possibly more – i have variations swinging between opens almost immediately to not at all with some users actually seeing it opens almost after 2- minutes!
And then of course there is no standard browser … oh im not talking non-IE im just talking about various versions of IE!

We have a lot of users that utilize the “Open with Explorer” option. One thing we make sure is that in IE, our domain is setup under the Intranet and not under Trusted Sites. Also, I have heard of benefits to going into Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings and unchecking Automatically Detect.
its a convenient feature – yes!
i think its best use is large number of documents and also when moving between libraries OR even between sites and libraries. (i dont believe the drag/drop works there).
Have enabled users to scan documents right into SP but need them to move it from there into various folders they have access to! (essentially digitizing paper documents which are out of the loop and need to be inside SP)
The only reason I’ve ever used Open with Explorer is to move a large number of documents from my desktop onto SharePoint. Otherwise, I would think they would just want to click on the document to open it.
