Hi Alll,
I am new to SharePoint and i am loving the product. Also new to this website.
We are in the middle of migration of 15.000 users to the cloud.
14.000 students and 1000 staff. (big school)
My question is what are the users experiencing if they want to work with non-office files.
Lets say a Autocad, Adobe Photoshop and all other kind of files. Some of them can be verry big.
1. Opening them in File explorer with a link to the SP library is working fine?
2. Are a lot of open connections from users using their File Explorer with a connection to SP giving a problem?
3. What can we do to make sure that users have a good users experience when we go live with non-office files.
Please share your thoughts on this.
Thank you
Aldo
As Nico mentions, the big question is whether your file sizes are within the 2Gb limit. If yes, there are some solutions available through Microsoft WAN optimization and accelerator partners (for example – http://ru.riverbed.com/solutions/by-application/cad/) that can improve performance.
Another option is to do this kind of collaboration around OneDrive for Business rather that your team sites in O365, giving more individual flexibility in how/when/with whom you are sharing these files.
SharePoint has long had a large file transfer issue, and its more of an issue on O365. If you dig through TechNet and Microsoft marketing materials, you’ll find CAD performance guidance that trends heavily toward hybrid options, where these asset libraries and content types are kept separate from MS Office-type content and treated differently. That may not be the path you want to go, but there are case studies out there.
