Looking at this from an ISV, SI, OEM perspective — how big is the opportunity around hybrid SharePoint? What data is out there? How long do you think hybrid will be a dominant infrastructural option?
I honestly haven’t encountered it very much in the wild. Maybe one or two times. All of the smaller organizations I’ve worked with have either gone fully into the cloud or plan to, or are using foundation.
The larger organizations tend to use on-prem more. I’m trying to get one of my clients to consider hybrid when they upgrade so they can dip their toes in the water on the cloud, since they are pretty scared of it (finance).
There is one project I’m working on where they have both O365 and on-prem SharePoint 2013, and are going to start using SPO a bit, but I don’t know if they actually plan on configuring hybrid. I’m going to suggest it to them, but I’m there doing an Azure SSO project, so don’t really have access to the SharePoint team.
In conclusion, a lot of organizations have been saying they plan to go with hybrid, but I haven’t seen it a lot from a wide variety of sizes and industries. I think it’s more of a trickle right now, but that the flood gates will probably start opening soon enough.
