In one of the many chats we have on the community chat room, the discussion around MCT came up. Does anyone have details on how to obtain the certificate ? How much is it ? What’s needed ?

I have done this from the perspective of and end user/information worker trainer.
Had been training SharePoint for a bit as I entered Global Financial Crisis Round One. Did a new business plan, SWOT analysis. All of which confirmed what I sort of knew. To relaunch my little business, I needed my certifications up to date and an MCT to use as a marketing tool. Also researched the MCT requirements.
For information worker trainer type MCT you need (short version – see MCT site for full info)
- Current Trainer certification
- Relevant MCP (for Technical Trainers, this benchmark is higher)
- to give Microsoft a small fee
- more details on the MCT site
So I did a new trainer certification (know as TAE in Australia) 15-17 evenings (I had a very old trainer certification, felt a current one would help meet the requirements). I also did the then new SharePoint 2010 end user Microsoft Office Specialist Exam (the exam system crashed the first time!)
Then you fill in the form online, paid the fee, and the you send the evidence to Microsoft. Had some hitches getting my evidence to the right people, but it was all sorted from within Microsoft (the people who got my evidence by accident forwarded it to the right place)
Just renewed for this year. Was a Technet subscriber before, now get same level as part of my MCT. A very useful benefit.
Training Providers have confirmed it helps a lot with their clients when they can indicate the trainer is an MCT.
And I am now doing lots of end user SharePoint training 2007, 2010 and 2013. There is a new MOS exam for SharePoint 2013 – my next little project.
