I first really discovered SharePoint a couple of years ago. One of our clients was thinking about using it and we looked into it for them. What I discovered just blew me away. So much great functionality straight out of the box! Wow… And that was before SharePoint 2013 came along.
I admit, when it comes to Microsoft System Admin and System Programming, I’m a complete numptie! I can program – but not in any of the languages most others here use. I run my own virtual server under Windows Server 2012 – I get by – and could probably set up a SharePoint farm if I put my mind to it… But I don’t even understand the titles of most the discussions in this community!
For my own business, we use SharePoint extensively (albeit as part of Office 365). Every client we have has a SharePoint landing site, every project for each client has its own site with document libraries, a visual project plan, incident and issue logs and tracking, team member profiles etc. etc. – our clients login as external users – we LOVE IT! The security is tricky – but works so long as we are careful. We actually find SharePoint really easy to use. There I’ve said it! Yet everywhere I go (even clients who happily use our SharePoint site) people tell me it’s difficult and they don’t use it. And if one more person tells me they have something similar using Dropbox… well I might not be responsible for my actions!
Where do I go to hang out with people who just sit around basking in the wonder of SharePoint and maybe sharing a few ideas on how to use it better?
Just ask Vlad and Chip.. They can handle all of your questions… (smile) They’ve helped me on several occasions…
Hi John,
As a newbie to all of this, coming from an operation background, I just built the servers that sharepoint sits on, I have found this site invaluable in getting knowledge at so many different levels.
Everyone is really helpful, and I have certainly not been afraid to ask ‘dumb’ question for fear of a backlash 🙂
I really do agree with you John. Even i started SharePoint a few years back but still some topics in this community are way beyond my reach. Sometimes it makes me consider “Dude ! Do i know SharePoint at all”. But still on a brighter side, whenever something new comes i check it out on internet and hopefully someday will be able to understand what really goes on here 🙂
Hello John,
Chip couldn’t have said it better! Over 40% of the site members are begginers, so do not hesitate or be shy to ask any question or talk about anything in the chat! We all started as begginers anyway, and some questions can be very interesting even for advanced people!
Do not hesitate to share Blog posts for begginers and to ask questions in the chat! Everyone over here is very respectfull and helpful!
Thank you Chip
That’s given me encouragement to stick with it. I will not feel so bad posting some numptie-level questions.
