You are correct. Per the link, it’s Office Online Server. There is no other way for you to open up these documents in the browser in a convenient way.

I think in SharePoint 2013 only accept the office web apps. This is SharePoint 2016, we need to configure OOS(Office Online Server) right ? or Any other option is available to open the documents in browser ? Thanks for the reply.
