“InfoPath is dead”
Ok we all kind of guessed this was coming, but Microsoft officially announced today that InfoPath is one dead puppy. In their words “This means that InfoPath 2013 is the last release of the desktop client, and InfoPath Forms Services in SharePoint Server 2013 is the last release of InfoPath Forms Services“.
So, what are you plans now ? If you are looking for a new forms solution, will you go InfoPath 2013, wait for the next “Forms Solution” from MS, or go with something else?
Anyway, here’s their full article : http://blogs.office.com/2014/01/31/update-on-infopath-and-sharepoint-forms/
TIP: Find your next Infopath Forms Replacement over in our Collab365.Directory.
I haven’t yet figured out what we are going to go to in place of InfoPath down the road. I do know that Access nor Word as they currently stand will work for our purposes. The thing that I like about InfoPath is the ability to promote columns for use in Content Types and workflows. We’ve been enable to include approval sections actually in the forms and route notification workflows accordingly.
I haven’t seen a way to do that with Word or Access.
For now, we will continue with our InfoPath forms as I research possible alternatives. I am NOT however looking for 3rd party solutions at this time.
I would be interested to hear from folks who are attending SPC’14 what options Microsoft is recommending.
