If I open the latest version of the document (from the doc library screen) it opens in the Word App just fine. However, if I try to open a previous version then it will try to open it in the Client Word App.
Here’s the scenario in pictures (excuse the handwriting) …
If I click this link directly, this will open fine in the Word Web app (browser).
If I then do a version history and want to view a previous version, this will try to open in the Word client (or download it).
The Url is obviously different as it’s accessing a different verison. (e.g. https://{serverurl}/_vti_history/2048/Shared%20Documents/User%20Guides/Doc%20Guides%20v2.2/DocSurvey%20User%20Guide%202010%20v2.2.docx)
Does anyone know if it’s possible to only use the word web app, or what the justification is for not allowing it to open in the web app ? What about the users who don’t have the client app ?
