I am preparing to migrate the internal farm running SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. I am also preparing to migrate the SQL cluster to SQL 2012 SP1. We will use a mix of SQL clustering and Always On.
I asked the datacenter office that the new hardware to have Server 2012 installed for this project.
I got a very interesting question from the datacenter – to tell them what functionality I need from Server 2012 that is not present in 2008 R2. I know they are very lazy and don’t want to use Server 2012, but I was not really prepared for this question.
Does any of you know any functionality in Server 2012 that will help with SharePoint 2013, Office Web Apps and SQL 2012 SP1, clustered and Always On?
Also Server 2012 is the recommended OS for SharePoint 2013, so just play that card and hopefully someone will pull there fingure out and do what has been asked of them. Also the DataCenter peeps should love Server 2012 as it is a great OS for managing multiple servers from a single box, plus they should be wanting to embrace change 🙂 not be scared of it.
I know there are some BI limitations if SQL Server 2012 Enterprise with SP1 is not used. As to what they exactly are I am not sure, sorry.

In general it shouldn’t be a problem to have SharePoint on Windows Server 2012
Windows Server 2012 R2 is not supported by SharePoint 2013 unless SP1 is out. I have it installed on Windows Server 2012 and SharePoint works without any exception as far as I have seen.
You will find this in the following KB article:Â http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2891274
