Colleagues,

All of you in this community are so SharePoint sophisticated that I thought you might to see how a non-SharePoint person is teaching himself SharePoint, mostly on his own.

Over two years ago I decided I would learn Microsoft SharePoint.  It’s been like learning how to play tennis, by yourself.

Imagine how difficult it would be to teach yourself tennis when you didn’t know how to hit a tennis ball and had no one to teach you?  It’s pretty hard to play tennis (collaborate), when you’re by yourself.

Initially I built simple SharePoint 2010 sites.  When SP 2013 came out I focused on new technology, not old SP 2010.  Then I found a mentor in Virginia (Rob Moses of Caladan Consulting).  Then I helped on a small project with training videos.  Now I’ve built my own Office 365 site with subsites.

Which brings me to showing you how I’ve been teaching myself SharePoint.

Whenever I learn something new in SP 2013 or have a question, I write it in my SharePoint Learning Blog.  Only my mentor has seen parts of my learning notes.  All in all I’ve written over 85 SharePoint notes and questions.  See the snapshot below.

If anyone is interested in seeing my training notes, contact me through this forum or through LinkedIn.  With a name like “Richard Kraneis”, I’m pretty easy to find on the Internet.

If anyone is interested in a PMP (Project Management Professional) who knows SharePoint and is a training/helpdesk SME, please contact me.

Here’s hoping that my perspective on how to learn SharePoint will be helpful to you in your projects, as you try to teach your users how to use SharePoint.

Best Wishes,
