I setup a Linked Data Source (LDS) between 2 lists and the created a Data View Web Part (DVWP) based on the LDS I setup within a page using SharePoint Designer (SPD). I then setup the columns, paging and sorting as required, exported the web part as a file and then added it to a page in SharePoint site via the browser (Edit Page > Add a Web Part > Browse and Upload DVWP file > Add) and everything works fine.
My list though was too big and grouping would be perfect solution so I went back to SPD and setup the grouping for the DVWP by using the ribbon command (Sort & Group > Add field to Sort Order list (e.g. year) > select field and tick the box Show Group Header) and the saved and add in the web part to a page as I did before but now I get the message “Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator. Correlation ID:15c08e9d-7022-3000-b198-7f424702a0fc”
Can anyone explain why grouping killed the DVWP and help in getting grouping up and running?
