Hello Friends,
Please suggest your best approach for Lotus Notes To SharePoint 2013 Migration !!!
Thanks,
Ashutosh
Hi Ashutosh,
I’m in the middle of this right now, although we’re still on 2010 at the moment – though we may be on 2013 by the time it’s finished. It has been a huge project (almost 5 years and counting) and there are many things to consider. If your Lotus Notes databases mostly use the standard Notes templates (mail/team room/document library/etc) then there are 3rd-party tools you can buy to help convert these (mostly) automatically to SharePoint sites. If you have a lot of custom databases, well, that’s another story.
The main questions to ask are:
- How many databases do you need to migrate?
- Are they custom or do they use standard templates?
- Do they use any special functionality that would need to be duplicated in SharePoint?
- Do they need to be migrated in a particular order or with respect to certain scheduling guidelines dictated by other departments in the company?
- Are there any special data retention considerations such as would be needed for legal proceedings or compliance audits that could affect your migration processes?
- Will there be resources – both personnel and monetary – to assist with the project?
- Is there someone overseeing the project who has decision-making authority over the disposition of databases and who can help spread support for the effort among the rest of the company?
I hope that’s a good starting point. Depending on your environment, it could be relatively simple, or it could be a nightmare. There’s not too much you can’t do in SharePoint that you can do in Notes (and vice versa) but a huge part of it depends on how much time and support you have along the way.
Good luck,
Stephanie

Thank you to Mark for the shout-out. That’s the presentation I gave for SP24 on the topic, as I was responsible for managing the migration efforts for our company’s move from Notes applications to SharePoint.
Take a look at the presentation and feel free to email me if you have questions or comments.
