We have two columns as shown on the image below “OEMs” and “OEM PartNo” and both columns mount to “Other OEMs” Term Set. On this term set there are OEMs, and then OEM PartNo under each OEM.
The Problem we have is that People can make a mistake and tag an OEM PartNo under the OEMs column or an OEMs product under OEM PartNo column.
Is there a way so that when tagging the OEMs column, only OEMs Show up and then same for the OEM ParNo?
Just in case someone else has a similar issue, here is the best solution I managed to find.
Here is what I did.
1. Made a copy of the ‘Term Set’ by right click and then copy Term Set.
2. On the original Term Set I disabled tagging on the top level (OEMs in this case)
3. On the new copy, I deleted all the items in the sub level (OEM Part numbers) since I only need OEMs to be available for tagging.
4. I then changed the OEMs column to point to the new Term Set copy.
This way now only the OEM part numbers are picked up from the original Term Set and the OEMs are been picked up from the new Copy of the Term Set.
Doing it this way it’s not creating a fresh copy but is still using the original tag as shown on the  image below.
