I have started to read about and watch about SP. I have lynda.com and trainsignal videos for SP 2013. I don’t have SP server installed at the place I work. I would like to know if I could get an online account free/paid to practice what I learn from lynda.com video.

you can download and try sharepoint 2013 for 6 months for free.
Another option is to buy office 365 account.
