I wondered how easy/hard would it be to redirect the smaller new document button found in the list view, to match the function of the new document button in the ribbon.

We want users to have access to templates we upload as content types, but they have to navigate all the way into the document library, to access the ribbon, to click the New Document button to activate the dropdown with the template as a choice. If you click the NEW button on the list view of the doc lib, you are prompted with an upload, or “add a document” dialog box.
We are running Sharepoint Online, with a lot of E2 users.
