We are in the need of some general email management for a group of project / power users. The need is fairly simple, to copy / move an email from MS Outlook directly in to SharePoint. Having a prompt to ask for some metadata would be a nice, but not necessary bonus.
I know of some 3rd party apps, KnowledgeLake / Calligo as examples. If possible, we would like to avoid them, or at least, find one which is super simple for our users. We don’t want / need additional features.
Any feedback would be welcome,
LarryN
SharePoint offers few Out of box SharePoint Outlook Integration options to copy emails to SharePoint
For 3rd party options, users can try the Outlook SharePoint plugin
You could setup one or more email-enabled libraries in SharePoint and just have users forward email to that address.
I’ve tried Harmon.ie for Outlook and find it is a great product.
Hi Larry – how’s this going ? Really interested to see the results of your findings.
Hi Larry,
I’m one of the architects of OnePlaceMail and glad it’s made it onto your list. Our guiding philosophy is to bring SharePoint to the user it a simple and intuitive manner that minimising training so I certainly hope it fits your needs. Our development priorities are driven by real user feedback so I’d certainly be interested to hear your feedback following your evaluation.
For those reading this thread and still looking for an out of the box solution please see my blog post describing the different native ways of integrating Outlook and SharePoint along with the pros and cons of each method, I hope it helps and good luck finding a solution that works for you.
Brief update on my progress as two products are already out of the running.
Knowledgelake Connect is out of the running due to price – They have a great product I’m sure, but not an outlook only solution, which the price very much confirms.
Harmon.ie – They have recently moved to a SaaS model, with a 3 year license term. Right now, I am unable to purchase this type of license. I will say I did download their trial with mixed results. Sadly I cannot move forward with the evaluation.
On the other hand, I am adding a product named Oneplace Mail.
The 3 products all are competitively priced at near 100 per user, for a hundred users. I have not done any intensive negotiations, just working off of list.
With the 3 products left, I will be showing them first internally, and then to the business. I expect to have a solid decision within 2 weeks.
