I’m looking for a course (live, not online) taught by a SharePoint MVP regarding PowerShell for SharePoint 2010 or 2013.
Anyone out there know if such a thing exists?
Phil,
I read the not online–but you gotta look at Gary LaPointe’s —Pluralsight Course “Using Windows PowerShell with SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013” Awesome Demos and Examples!!Â
It’s awesome. Covers SharePoint 2010 and 2013, PowerShell 3.0–shows how to take your scripts and create functions with parameters.  Up another notch to cmdlets using the PipeLine. Worth the cost of Pluralsight  alone. Not to mention their 60 SharePoint Courses and over 17 SharePoint 2013.
Not to mention Pluralsight just bought TrainSignal who has the best “SharePoint 2013 Administration” course which I am currently writing a review.
thanks,
Stephan
I think there’s an opening in the market for a class (especially a SharePoint specific class). I learn best in a live classroom setting where I have an opportunity to network with an instructor and other students and jump in with questions along the way.
I’m going to take on Gary Lapointe’s pluralsight course this fall. If anyone out there has taken that online course and has any feedback or a review to share, please feel free to post some comments here.
Will look at the Microsoft Virtual Academy too. Thanks for the link, Matthew!
I am no expert either, it just takes practice little by little. I just keep a huge list of all the examples and tips I get and little by little I get better, but there was never any “class” or “instructor” that helped with it. So, just keep practicing, try the PowerGUI thing or if you get to use PowerShell 3.0 there the ISE has all that type ahead/help stuff in it too. If you only want to learn PowerShell (not SharePoint specific) here were some free webinars/courses from Microsoft Virtual Academy also for V 3.0:
Very nice blog post, Matthew. Thanks for sharing the link.
I use PowerShell every day, but I feel that I’m not overly efficient. Haven’t read a book (I should read a book), so I guess I’m self-taught from thousands of bits and pieces I’ve picked up from blogs, webinars etc.
Looks like PowerGui or some other IDE might help. I think my limited knowledge of the SharePoint object model is what’s really holding me back.
Not sure if these were all covered but I wrote a blog post on it:
