We are looking at implementing Blob storage on out SharePoint 2010 Enterpise Farm. From the research I’ve done I’ve concluded that the FILESTREAM solution isn’t production ready. (Is this fair?)
I’ve looked at a number of the third party suppliers and wondered what the communities experience are with this and why perhaps one solution is better than another
I’d also be interested to know if you can point me at any real world case studies?

I’ll reply to both of your questions here.Â
1. Killer features: We have a few features that just standout in our product.Â
- ALL of our externalization rules are real time, this means that the data you intend to be externalized during a migration or as you upload it will never hit the SQL server, hogging space, leaving a shadow copy behind, taking up processing power (even temporarily). This “all rules are real time” is unique to us. We find that this helps to speed up migrations (in our test we found a 36% increase in migration speed: see this technical brief: http://software.dell.com/techbrief/five-ways-to-prepare-for-sharepoint-2013-implement-data-externalizatio822837/). I describe the benefits of externalizing during your migration in this post: http://communities.quest.com/docs/DOC-8702. I’d check it out since you are thinking about a 2013 move.
- Another killer feature is our metadata rule. This means we offer extreme flexibility in choosing the data you want to externalized. You can create rules that externalize data based on any metadata, including custom columns. 2. for 2013 support we have a beta that currently supports 2013 and shredded storage with the release build coming in a few short weeks. The beta is going great.
