We are looking at implementing Blob storage on out SharePoint 2010 Enterpise Farm. From the research I’ve done I’ve concluded that the FILESTREAM solution isn’t production ready. (Is this fair?)
I’ve looked at a number of the third party suppliers and wondered what the communities experience are with this and why perhaps one solution is better than another
I’d also be interested to know if you can point me at any real world case studies?
Hi Paul,
Full disclosure, I work for Dell Software (formerly known as Quest Software) and am the product marketing manager for Storage Maximizer for SharePoint, RBS/EBS data externalization solution. I’d be happy to direct you to several product videos, technical briefs, case studies, etc to help you in your decision making process:
- Product page – gives the overview of the product with links directly to testimonials, datasheets, technical briefs, etc.: http://software.dell.com/products/storage-maximizer-for-sharepoint/
- Case study – this is an awesome case study from Conexus Credit Union, one of Canada’s largest credit unions, who wanted to externalize everything: http://software.dell.com/documents/CSW_Conexus_A4_VG.pdf
- Product videos – these show how we’ve streamlined the externalization process with SMAX as well as a helpful install video and a discussion about the newest feature we have which enables you to externalize data based on any metadata (definitely a differentiator): http://communities.quest.com/docs/DOC-8702
- Recovery integration – here’s a great technical brief that outlines how Dell Recovery Manager for SharePoint integrates with SMAX to provide recovery of externalized content (v. important in data externalization considerations): http://software.dell.com/techbrief/backup-and-recovery-consideratio…
- Trial download – free 30 day trial with support. After the 30 days the product continues to work (so you don’t lose any externalized data) but support for the product discontinues until a valid license is applied: http://software.dell.com/register/55602/
I’d be happy to help you further in your RBS quest. Just let me know how I can assist.
