We are looking at implementing Blob storage on out SharePoint 2010 Enterpise Farm. From the research I’ve done I’ve concluded that the FILESTREAM solution isn’t production ready. (Is this fair?)
I’ve looked at a number of the third party suppliers and wondered what the communities experience are with this and why perhaps one solution is better than another
I’d also be interested to know if you can point me at any real world case studies?
I’d disagree with that — FILESTREAM is enterprise ready, just Microsoft’s provider for FILESTREAM isn’t meant for large scale installations due to it’s inflexibility. Â But other providers built on top of FILESTREAM to create that flexibility.
The problem is performance impact and consistency. Â Since timer jobs have a 1ms resolution, you cannot back up an entire farm (+ SQL databases) within that 1ms resolution using snapshots. Â This is why an application-level backup is still a requirement for SharePoint.
I guess I should have said FILESTREAM isn’t “Enterprise Ready!”
How would you say your product differentiates itself from others. For example DocAve Blob Storage module? What’s your USP?
